Scaling and Review Notes

Every game ranked was played, but also scaled based on research, talking to developers & your feedback. The priority with the scale's initial design was to compare similarity on relatively objective features - so it doesn't claim to include reviews of the depth and clarity you'd get at a games journalism site, nor the intensive time played you might get from player reviews on steam. We try to incorporate and link all of that along with a 'review scale' that checks for bugs. See the heatmap and breakdown! Time played noted so you can take any notes with a big grain of salt! I can't get to high level gameplay in 850+ games so I heavily research every game. Over 80 game creators let me interview or survey them! I Hope to go back and refine. Please argue or submit your own scores and reviews to be incorporated with credit into the notes and score numbers.

Dev Notes: "Tutorial can't be skipped as it's woven into the levels.
Level 1 has a short section to teach some controls to the player. Then it throws them into a special mode that is like vampire survivor. I designed it to last only 2 to 3 minutes in total. It gives a little time to just play the game after the short intro tutorial section.
Level 2 has a short section at the start to teach more controls to the player. Then the player plays the game normally.
Level 3 teaches one more thing.
Level 4 teaches the final thing, since in it the player has a new goal. It is no more just about survival. Instead the player can at any point try to destroy the cloud kings base.
"

This game is probably rated a little low - devs can be very conservative when they rate their games! Tweaking in progress.

Dev Scorecard notes: "Hive Jump Survivors is a blend of Vampire Survivors like gameplay set in the Hive Jump universe. The game is in closed beta and is coming soon to Early Access. A free demo will be made available through Itch.IO while development continues on the Steam version. The unique hook for the game shows up through the backpack feature which allows players more mobility than other survivors like games."

Dev: "It is more inspired by Seraph's Last Stand than Vampire Survivors whilst hopefully feeling very different to both games. It is a shooter, single screen with platform based movement and aiming. Some weapons are inspired by Vampire Survivors. Radiation is similar to Garlic and the Orbit Balls are similar to the Bible weapon in Vampire Survivors. I used the XP based levelling up from Vampire Survivors too."

Dev Scorecard Notes: "Inspired more by Nova Drift than Vampire Survivors, but my plan is to add a second more survivors-like game mode in the future. Steam features like achievements will be coming in the future as I get ready for early access."

Added or last checked on 11/22/2023

Scale scoring from scorecard submitted by Developer. Once evaluated after a couple hours play and some research, will be adjusted and moved up into the ranking proper.

Dev Note: "Not very similar, but can appeal to some of the same players"
